The Bauta is a traditional venetian mask covering the full face of the wearer. A distinct feature of the Bauta is the jaw line, which is turned upwards to allow the wearer to talk, eat and drink easily without having to drop the mask. In the 18th century, the Bauta was used by the citizens of Venice to mask and disguise themselves, especially during civil occasions requiring anonymity such as ballots.
